YouTube Has Higher Resolution Videos With Better Sound!

YouTube has started making available higher resolution versions of its videos, offering 480×360 video with higher quality audio, up from the standard resolution of 320×240. The video is MP4 with AAC audio. It has also made available 448×336 video, with 44100 Hz audio, double the normal.

To benefit from this, append &fmt=18 to the end of a video URL to get 480×360 video with higher quality audio. Or append &fmt=6 and get 448×336 video, with 44100 Hz audio. However, not all videos will work. Newer ones are most likely to work, as the source file is there so it can be converted.

One video I did notice that does have the higher quality video is the “One Peg More” video by Gop Virk & Laddi Bath. Continue reading YouTube Has Higher Resolution Videos With Better Sound!

Foobar2000 0.9 Out!

Foobar2000 is a lightweight, minimalist audio player and best of all it is freeware.

Despite the fact that foobar2000 can run on hardware that other players (like iTunes) would instantly kill, it’s no less a great audio player for even the most powerful computer. Foobar2000 is fully configurable as well as wonderfully compact and efficient. For example, I’m a big fan of keyboard shortcuts, and foobar2000 lets you easily set them up to do pretty much whatever you like.

If you’re still trying to find your favorite audio player, or if you’re like me and what you want out of your audio player is constantly changing, the newest version of foobar2000 is really worth checking out, especially if your main concern is playing high quality audio quickly and easily.
